Tammy‚Äôs love for dance started as a teenager, studying as a high school student in Modern dance, Jazz and African dance. Her love of dance grew stronger as she continued to study dance. She attended the adult dance program at Baltimore City Community College under a wonderful dance instructor, Mr. Andrew Young for approximately 3 years.

Tammy became interested in the art of Swing Dance in 1997. She studied the art of Hand Dance with the instruction of Lawrence Bradford. By 1998 she was competing.  She started locally, in Hand Dance and West Coast Swing Competitions and winning numerous 1st place awards. In November of 2006, Tammy along with her partner, Kevin, became U.S. Open Swing Dance Champions, winning first place in the Sophisticated Swing Division. Being the first African American couple to have a winning title at this event in a WCS solo division was a huge accomplishment.
